Over the course of the past few weeks, I've been giving you a list of my Top Five Favorite John Hughes Movies … Plus Three Honorable Mentions. To recap, My Five Favorite John Hughes Movies are:
16 Candles
Breakfast Club
Vacation
Uncle Buck
Ferris Beuller's Day Off
Have no fear, there are still plenty of fabulous movies from which to choose Three Honorable Mentions. Hmm … what movies are missing from the list? What could possibly make up the Three Honorable Mentions?
Drillbit Taylor? No. Not even close.
Baby's Day Out? Um … no.
Home Alone 3? Puh-leeze.
Here are the Three Honorable Mentions - and I heart them. I really do.
Planes, Train, and Automobiles
I have to go with this movie because of it's sheer awesomeness. And I love John Candy. I really do. Oh, and Steve Martin is a complete genius at playing extremely fussy, uptight characters.
A brief plot summary: A man is trying to get home for Thanksgiving and his traveling companion is a shower ring salesman.
Favorite line:
waking up after sharing the same hotel bed
Neal: Del … why did you kiss my ear?
Del: Why are you holding my hand?
Neal: Where's your other hand?
Del: Between two pillows.
Neal: Those aren't pillows!
The Great Outdoors
What can I say? I love John Candy. And I love a giant boat named Suck My Wake. It amuses me.
A brief plot summary: A man takes his family on a peaceful vacation in the woods only to have his irritating brother-in-law's family join them.
Favorite line:
Chet: That's okay. We're renting a pontoon boat.
Roman: Pontoon boat? What the hell are you gonna do with a pontoon boat? Retake Omaha Beach?
Christmas Vacation
Ahh … one of the few proud members of the Well Done Sequel Club (I just made that up). The original Vacation movie is on my list of Favorites, but Christmas Vacation is right near the top. I love the Griswolds, no matter which actors play the kids, Rusty and Audrey.
A brief plot summary: Clark W. Griswold takes on a fun, old fashioned family Christmas.
Favorite line (it made an appearance on my Christmas cards one year):
Cousin Eddie: Merry Christmas! Shitter was full.
This concludes my webinar on the sheer genius that was John Hughes. After watching all eight movies, you too shall be fluent in Hughes. I will be so proud.
Pin It Now!
PT&A has been on my top 10 list forever, and for a whole lot of reasons other than the car rental scene with Grace.
