I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Sherman Hemsley, AKA George Jefferson, died earlier this week. So tragic for I loved The Jeffersons.
Best. Theme. Song. Ever.
In college, I had a friend who spent three solid semesters perfecting her George Jefferson walk. Sure she might have academically dismissed herself from Ball State University, but that walk was sheer perfection and so worth sacrificing her future career in home decorating.
I was browsing around on Facebook and came across a picture of a painting depicting George Jefferson in all of his George-ness. Like all good art, this painting spoke to me.
It said 'Jen, you must have me for your Room O' Funk … no wait. Your living room.'
Behold. Art.
Sigh. Doesn't it just speak to you?
I had to know if this piece of Jeffersonian art was for sale or if it was a specially commissioned piece. Turns out this isn't the only portrait of George. If you want to know the whole story behind the George/Sherman art, click here.
I texted the owner of this masterpiece to find out more about it. And, more importantly, if I could get a Weezie, too. Even though I love George, I've always been more of a Weezy gal.
My husband agrees that I have no idea where the line between tacky and fine art is. His response when I suggested hanging Weezy above the fireplace?
'Not this fireplace. Put it in your Room O' Funk.'
Now buckle up kids, there's a good idea. Weezy (should a portrait exist) could join Wonder Woman, Elvis, and Davy Jones' autograph.
Done. Easy, peasy, George and Weezy.

Tacky, artistic or just plain visionary. Discuss.
ReplyDeleteI'm going with just plain visionary.
DeleteWould the friend with the magic walk happen to be your first dorm roomie, Tina??
ReplyDelete~taya
Nope. Tina was sassy, but not George Jefferson sassy.
