First Friday in June

Did you know that today is a national holiday?

No?

You weren't aware?

Today is the first Friday in June, which makes it ………. National Donut Day!

* insert raucous applause, a few fist pumps, and some hollerin'

How do I know the first Friday in June is National Donut Day?

Because I possess so much useless information that I once had a professor at BSU call me a fountain of useless crap.

True story.

I loaded up the kids in the car this morning and we jetted off in search of donuts. Since I physically cannot eat a donut before 3 p.m. without getting sick, I let the girls pick whatever kind they felt like getting while I amused myself by looking for forgotten change in the newspaper vending machines.

Yep. I gave them a cardboard box, a tissue paper thingy, and free reign at the donut counter.

This is what they picked:

I was mildly impressed that they stopped at two donuts apiece.

Then I noted aloud that all the donuts were chocolate covered and asked why there wasn't more variety like powdered sugar. Or sprinkles. Or glazed. Or maple flavored frosting. Perhaps a cruller or two.

Their response?

"Mom. There are different shapes. That's variety."

I stand corrected.

Happy Donut Day!
