For most of my life, I've had long hair. It's not Rapunzel length or anything. Egads, what a pain in the heinie that hair would be. My hair is no where near Crystal Gayle length either. I can't stand on it. Or sit on it. Seriously. How weird would that be?
My hair comes just past my shoulders and I like it that way.
Long hair suits me. It's easier to deal with than short hair.
If I'm having a bad hair day, I can teach it a lesson by simply pulling it up into a ponytail. With short hair, you're stuck with uncooperative locks and there's not much you can do about it except slap on a hat.
Long hair is awesome in the winter because it kind of doubles as a scarf and keeps my neck warm. Short hair can't keep your neck warm in the winter.
That being said, I kinda wish I had short hair. Short haircuts are massively cute. Lately, I've been inexplicably drawn to short hair cuts.
Now I'm thinking that short hair is better than long hair. The quicker drying time alone is enough to make me do cartwheels.
And lots of those bouncin' and behavin' hairdos on TV are short. I'd like to have bouncin' and behavin' hair.
Last week we had a particularly windy day here. I was walking into swim practice with my mouth hanging wide open because I was laughing at a joke my kid made. The wind whipped a lock of my own hair around my head and into my open mouth where it actually touched the back of my throat. I made horrible gagging noises for twenty minutes before I found the situation hilarious and started laughing.
Imagine.
Choking on your own hair.
What. A. Dork.
That episode alone made me want short hair.
I had a regularly scheduled appointment to get my hair cut on Wednesday. I toyed with the idea of going short. I did. I really did toy with the idea. In the end, I settled for getting three inches cut off.
No one noticed.
When you have long hair, a three inch trim off the bottom isn't enough of a change for your people to take great delight in your new 'do. I'm okay with that.
Know what stopped me from going short? Seeing this photo.
Yep. That's me. Circa 1978. I haven't busted this photo out on my blog in a long time, but I felt it necessary to explain why I didn't go with a shorter hairdo.
Let's put aside the fact that I'm wearing a red turtleneck with a hot pink satin jacket for a moment and instead, focus on the fact that some of us simply can not rock the shorter hair. I'm one of those people.
I'm okay with this fact. I will continue to have long hair in the foreseeable future. However, I can't make any promises about no longer wearing red turtlenecks and hot pink satin jackets. I simply can not walk away from fashion that good.
Anybody know where I can get a hot pink satin jacket in a Women's size M?
