Life on the Tundra

Much of the country experienced a massive winter storm this week and my area was no exception. We had snow, ice, sleet, and strong winds. And that was just the first day.

Translation: I haven't left my house in over three days.

When I say that I haven't left my house in over three days I mean I haven't left my house in over three days. Haven't even opened the door since Monday afternoon at 3:45 pm.

Until today. Either I had to get outside or I would loose what's left of my mind. This is what I found:

Frozenness.

Like that word? I just made it up. But I kinda like it.

I ventured out into the backyard to see the snowy drifts. Sadly, I didn't realize the drifts were covered in a thin layer of ice until I completely wiped out, arms and legs flailing. Bet that was funny to see.

The layer of ice was thin enough to creak and groan, but not break, whenever I walked across it. I didn't like that. Made me feel like I weighed about eight hundred pounds. Made my jiggly parts feel jigglier.

Which they might be. I've been on the couch under a blanket when I should have been on the treadmill. And there might have been some double chocolate peanut butter chip cookies involved. But seriously, wouldn't you be on the couch under a blanket if this was your backyard?

Frozenness.

Today though, the bright sunshine lured me outside. After several days of cloudy and precipitating skies, I was ready to see the sun. The sun seemed to shine even brighter after my days in the house. I was momentarily blinded as I stepped outside. The sun totally messed with my rods and cones, man. It was harsh. But it was nice to see.

I was outside for all of 6.5 minutes this afternoon and that was enough. I was ready to go back into my house for another three days.

That's life on the tundra. Pin It Now!
