It was calm. It was lovely. It was a balmy thirty-four degrees. I only mention the temperature because it's twelve hours later and my hands are still cold. I can barely type. At some point I will remember to grab a pair of gloves on my way out the door in February, but yesterday was not that day.
I could see thousands of stars, one moon, and two planets. And it's pretty faint, but off to the right between Jupiter and the Moon, there are two stars that are the start of the Aries constellation.
The Orion constellation (best visible in the winter sky) was very clear and easy to spot, as well. Prior to last night, my husband had never been able to find Orion. I have no idea how Orion has always eluded him because I've always been able to spot him. Quite easily. For some inexplicable reason, my knack for finding Orion has always annoyed my husband. He has (on more than one occasion) even doubted the existence of this star formation. Like I made the whole Orion thing up.
Puh-leeze. If I'm going to make crap up, it's not going to be about seeing a dude in the sky. It's going to be about how I was almost an Olympian (roller skating, 1984).
But I digress.
Last night Orion was easy to see. I usually find him by his belt and sword first. Why the belt and the sword? Because Orion was a snappy dresser and all about accessorizing. He is the Giorgio Armani of constellations. After finding his accessories, I can find his bow up and off to the right of his belt.
Last night the sky was incredibly clear. I was mooned and saw a man's sword. You know, nature at her finest. And I liked it.
