That being said, I wasn't quite sure what to expect when watching another one of my Must See movies: One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest. It could be a really great movie or it could be one that was completely disrespectful and made fun of 'crazy' people. I'm happy to note that the movie was delightful.
That's right. I liked it! Of course, Cuckoo's Nest stars Jack Nicholson and I love Jack Nicholson (you can't HANDLE the truth!). And Christopher Lloyd! Oh how I love Christopher Lloyd! He plays a great slightly off-kilter person quite well. My friend, Gayle, once met him at a bar in Indianapolis (the Slippery Noodle Inn, in case you were wondering). I wasn't with her that night and didn't get to meet him, so I'm not really sure what my point is in telling you that little tidbit of information other than the fact that I like to add a little color commentary and a personal connection to my stories.
You've probably already noticed that about me.
Let's talk about Cuckoo's Nest. Basically, it's the story of McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) who ditches prison by pleading insanity and goes to a mental facility instead. There he comes up against Nurse Ratched, a dictator type who is unflinchingly rigid in her rule over the ward. McMurphy rallies the other patients into his band of merry men, just to mess with Nurse Ratched.
This movie said yes to me. Perhaps because I am surprising blend of both McMurphy and Nurse Ratched, with a dash of Taber (Christopher Lloyd). LOVED the bus stealing scene! And the fishing scene - ha! Loved it, too.
Naturally, this being one of my List movies, I did find one thing disturbing. That would be the old guy who dances around the ward. No, he didn't flit about in a unpleasant or inherently disturbing way. It just bothers me that he is a much better dancer than I am. However, I believe that I have much better hair than he does and that mollifies me a bit.
The ending of this movie? Wow. I did not see that coming. Bravo.
To recap: Watched One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and liked it. Not once did I have the urge to throw my Snuggie over my head and hide or wish with all my heart and soul that I was watching an Adam Sandler movie. Instead, I had the urge to watch it again.
Pin It Now!
Yay!
