I'm on a roll. A Must See movie watching roll. The cause of this roll is still under investigation, but I'm pretty sure that it has to do with two facts.
Fact #1: The outside temperature is getting colder. The drop in temperature means that I'm becoming quite the hermit, refusing to leave my house for anything other than a large Diet Coke from McDonald's or one of my kids' sporting/Speech team/band events. Oh, and the periodic lunch with my beloved.
Fact #2: My time is almost up for watching all this classic cinema. Though the List officially states that I have until New Year's Eve of 2012 to watch all twenty movies, my self-imposed deadline is Halloween. I received my List around Halloween of last year and I feel compelled to complete it in one year's time.
Back to my roll of movie watching.
Not my fat rolls.
Never my fat rolls.
Ahem.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It's a Western. Sigh. I don't do Westerns because (SPOILER ALERT) there's always a shootout in which the guys wearing the white hats win. If you know who is going to win, what's the point in watching the movie?
I'll tell you the point in watching Butch Cassidy: Paul Newman. I now have a huge crush on Paul Newman. I don't know about his acting skills, but the man is attractive. Plus, he makes one heck of a good salsa.
Of course, some might go the Robert Redford route and he is ridiculously handsome in this flick, but I'm sticking with Paul.
Eye candy aside, this was a thoroughly enjoyable movie. There were plenty of witty lines being tossed around ("I got vision and the rest of the world wears bifocals" - genius!) and extremely entertaining.
I'm a sucker for a true story, so Butch Cassidy had me at the opening credits with this line "Most of what follows is true". The plot was based on real men of the Old West and their legendary lives? I'm all over that like Paula Deen on a butter cake.
And the best part? It was not one bit disturbing.
The basic premise is two bank/train robbers (the hauntingly attractive and aforementioned duo of Paul Newman and Robert Redford) escape to Bolivia when the long arm of The Law gets too close.
Sure they rob banks and trains, but haven't we all made a career misstep or two? Besides, Butch and Sundance are very likable. In fact, you actually root for them instead of The Law.
Or at least I did.
But that might be my crush talking.
Ahem.
To recap: Watched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and loved it. It's a Western and you know exactly who is going to win, but the movie is witty and funny enough to keep you entertained.
Pin It Now!
If the best part about this movie was a lack of disturbing scenes, I'm seriously considering letting you off the hook for Pulp Fiction. I think it may scar you for life.
ReplyDeleteJoanie, first things first...do you still love Chachi? Second, there is no way on H-E-double-hockey-sticks that Jenni will make it through Pulp Fictuon without serious emotional scarring. It one of my top ten favs of all time, but I'm completely warped. What's next? Kill Bill? (another fav, by the way...I do love me some Quinton Tarentino butt chin!!)
