Happy 5th of July!

Happy 5th of July!

Yesterday was the 4th of July.

Were you aware of that? Probably. The fireworks and whatnot quite possibly gave you a clue.

I love the 4th of July.

Seriously.

It is rapidly approaching Christmas as my favorite holiday.

I'm a fool for cookouts and fireworks.

And the Go-Gos, but I digress.

A big part of my Independence Day celebration is my city's Stars and Stripes concert. Guess what kind of music is played at the Stars and Stripes concert?

No, not the Go-Gos.

Lots of patriotic music was played, as well as some jazz, swing, and big band. I love all that stuff. Oh, and there were assorted sing-a-longs like the "1812 Overture" and the theme from "Rocky".

Just kidding.

But I did sing along to "Hail Purdue".

After the concert was the fireworks show. Have I ever mentioned that I'm a sucker for a good fireworks show? Yes? Okay then. Just making sure you know of my great love for fireworks.

I will spare you any fireworks photos because I figured my pictures wouldn't look any different than the fireworks you saw last night. Looking at other people's fireworks pictures is a lot like listening to their previous night's dreams.

Translation: it's kinda boring.

And I forgot to take any fireworks pictures.

I do have a photo of one of my favorite parts to the concert. I didn't take this photo because I had an obstructed view (translation: woman with a big floppy sunhat), so my husband took it.

These are members of the percussion section whacking away on …

… seven plastic five gallon plastic buckets and one industrial sized trash can.

Making music.

On five gallon buckets.

And a trash can.

I think that's genius.

I have only used five gallons buckets for two things: storing popcorn kernels from the garden and brining a turkey at Thanksgiving.

Now I see five gallon buckets in a whole new artsy light.

I just may have to grab some drumsticks and get my funk on with the buckets today.

Happy 5th of July!
