My New Year's Resolution? Sit On The Couch Under My Zebra Snuggie And Eat Ice Cream

It is January 12 and I need to finalize my New Year's resolutions. Yep, I'm making a resolution. I decided that last year's resolution to gain a little culture was a good experience (minus the back splashing potty and being groped by a stranger), so I've been figuring out what I want to do in 2012 to make me a better/healthier/more knowledgeable person.

So far the only resolution that has any appeal has been the one in which I sit on my couch under my zebra Snuggie, eat Breyer's ice cream, and watch the new Celebrity Wife Swap show on ABC. According to popular opinion (my husband and all but one friend), Celebrity Wife Swap doesn't satisfy the criteria of making me a better/healthier/more knowledgeable person. In fact, it does the opposite of making me a better/healthier/more knowledgeable person. So I've decided to do the opposite.

What is the opposite of Celebrity Wife Swap?

PBS. That's right. I'm going to watch a show on PBS (besides Sesame Street). And not fall asleep. That's my resolution for 2012. I've even picked out the show - The American Experience. Ta da!

I picked The American Experience for three reasons.

One: I've heard of the show from a few people that have similar TV viewing habits as myself and they didn't have a natural aversion to it. This is a real plus, people.

Two: The American Experience is about American history and I like American history, mainly because I like to know trivial stuff so I can appear smart at dinner parties when I whip out such knowledge as 'Did you know that bats always turn left when exiting a cave?'. Bats don't have much to do with history, but it's a cool fact to unleash on your unsuspecting fellow dinner partiers. Watching The American Experience will (fingers crossed) expand my knowledge of trivia and overall smartness.

Three: I had a third reason, but it escapes me now. I kinda sorta got distracted by the whole bat turning left thing and forgot my third reason. Sorry.

I recorded the first episode on Billy the Kid who, incidentally, wasn't named Billy. Fascinating, right? Oh, and the show wasn't about a kid who lived in my neighborhood when I was growing up, like I originally thought.

I thought (briefly) it might be about this kid named Billy who lived in my 'hood because that's what we called him: Billy the Kid. His dad was called Billy the Dad, so he was Billy the Kid.

Obviously.

I've only watched the first seven minutes of the show and I've already learned something. Can't say that about Celebrity Wife Swap. I've only watched the first seven minutes of the show because I had to go apply a second coat of spray paint to a pinterest project. Then I got distracted by two other pinterest projects currently under construction and, well, you can guess how the rest of my day went.

So there you have it. In addition to completing my Must See movie list, my 2012 New Year's resolution is to watch the PBS series 'The American Experience' and not fall asleep.

I'm so happy my two resolutions involve my zebra Snuggie and a bowl of ice cream! Pin It Now!

  1. I'm an American Experience (and other documentaries) junkie. I'm so excited to be able to talk to someone about the hurricane of 1938 (or whatever year it was) that hit New England. Score!

  2. Try Downton Abbey. It's PBS meets Days of Our Lives meets Awesome.
