My Thoughts On It's A Wonderful Life

A small, verbal skirmish broke out at my house this past Christmas when I dropped the whammy of a fact that I've never seen the movie 'It's A Wonderful Life'. Clearly, my Aunt's flabber was gasted.

Aunt (with an incredulous tone): You've never seen it?

Me: Nope. Never.

Aunt: Never?

Me: Nope.

Aunt (with a bit of outrage): It's A Wonderful Life? You've never seen it?

Me: Not one time.

Aunt: Why not?

Me: Because it doesn't look very funny and I like funny movies.

Aunt (fully outraged now): You have to have seen it! Everyone has seen it! It's part of the social fabric of our society!

Me: Eh. Big woo.

It is on my list of Must See movies. I take my list very seriously, which is why I sucked it up and watched It's A Wonderful Life on Saturday.

Know what? I liked it. Against all odds, I liked this movie.

On the surface it has everything going against it, meaning that it includes a couple of my big movie pet peeves: it's over two hours long (I hate that, with the exception of 'The Shawshank Redemption' which is wonderfully perfect in every way) and it won major awards. Generally speaking, I don't dig movies that have won awards (with the exception of the aforementioned Shawshank, again which is wonderfully perfect in every way). So color me shocked when I liked 'It's A Wonderful Life'.

Of course, I do like slightly absurd stuff.

And yes, 'Life' has some slightly absurd stuff in it. Like the names of George and Mary's four children: Janie, Peter, Tommy, and Zuzu.

Zuzu?

Yeah, Zuzu.

To recap: I surprised myself by liking 'It's A Wonderful Life'. I like the characters, I like the story, and I really like the name Zuzu. Good thing I'm not planning on having any more children because Zuzu could be in the mix as a name. Pin It Now!

  1. Zuzu is one of Zoey's many nicknames. And, if you like the name so much, then you should probably add one of my all time favorite movies (The Adventures of Ford Fairlane) to your next list. :)

    1. The Adventures of Ford Fairlane? The Andrew Dice Clay movie? Seriously?

  3. So glad you've added another quilt square to the societal fabric. Even if Zuzu's name was your favorite part.
