The 5K

Saturday marked a new era in our household.

The era of the 5K.

Let me stop the rumor that I was going to run a 5K (jiggly parts and all) before it really gets started.

My jiggle and I stayed on the sidelines with the children while my husband ran the race. It was safer that way.

Guess where the race was held?

Okay. I will give you a hint.

So … if you aren't from around here that probably wasn't much of a hint. I agree.

But please note the gray sky behind the stadium sign. Does that sky look like a good omen to you?

It got worse before it got better, but back to guessing where the race took place.

Race took place. Just a little poetry for you literary types.

Still no idea? Can't quite make out what is printed in a fancy-schmancy font on the side of the World's Largest Drum?

Purdue! You guessed it!

The 5K was a fundraiser for the Purdue Cancer Research Center. About $50,000 was raised by this event today. That amount is pretty awesome.

Know what wasn't pretty awesome?

The weather.

It was cold. It was rainy. It was cold and rainy.

I'm fragile. I simply cannot tolerate the cold and rain.

I did what any other person in my position would do.

I went shopping.

And found Purdue t-shirts for 99 cents apiece.

99 cents is within my budget. So I bought three.

I love it when $3.18 is all it takes to not have my children plus one extra be naked in the streets.

We almost missed my husband running the very last leg of the race.

Look at him. He's not even out of breath.

The turkey.

I was out of breath from just standing in line to buy the t-shirts.

He did say that some girl was in the process of passing him and puffing on her inhaler at the same time.

That did not make him feel good.

It made me feel better.

And less jiggly.

As for the 99 cent t-shirts? Aren't they cool?

And that sunshine in the photo?

What a difference a couple of hours can make.

*I'd like to add that I never, not once, yelled "Run Forest! Run!" when my husband was running by me. I think that shows great personal growth, don't you?

Pin It Now!

  1. The self control you must have not to yell that is incredible. I would have. And not just to your husband.
