There are a lot of tomatoes growing in my garden this year. I do not enjoy the tomato.

There are a lot of jalapeños growing in my neighbor's garden this year. I do not enjoy the jalapeño.

There are a lot of onions growing in my garden this year. I enjoy the heck out of the onion.

One might look at all the absurdly fresh produce available in my backyard and immediately think to make salsa. Pronounced sal-SAAAAAA, of course. Lord, I do love to say it that way.

I will now let you in on a little known fact: making sal-SAAAAAA will use up the tomatoes in your garden, but little else.

Instead, make pico de gallo. Personally, I believe that pico and sal-SAAAAAA are cousins, only one is chunkier and uses more junk from my garden. That would be the pico.

Invited to the party are: tomatoes, jalapeños, onions, cilantro, lime juice, and salt. I have three of these growing in my backyard.

Okay, okay. I may have channeled my Grandmother and stolen some jalapeños from my neighbor's garden. No, they weren't growing on my side of the fence. I just walked over and snapped off three jalapeños, all right? Hey, it's for a good cause.

Of these six ingredients, I only like three: onions, salt, and lime juice. I find tomatoes nasty, jalapeños grody, and cilantro barfy. Why would I make something in which I don't like over half of the ingredients? I don't know. All I can say is that it tastes good all mixed up and on a blue corn tortilla chip.
