Artsy Fartsy Turned Scary

It had been a while and I was feeling the itch last week. The itch to get my artsy-fartsy on. And I drafted a friend to go with me.

Look what we found:

A red barn! In Indiana! We were just so … shocked at seeing a red barn in the Hoosier state that I just had to hang out the window of the mini van and snap a photo. I'm such a daredevil, I know.

All joking aside, it's a right purty barn.

I don't know what the painted white circle on the front is, but I'm guessing it's a guide for making bales of hay the desired size. Think kitchen doodad that helps you measure out the correct amount of uncooked spaghetti noodles for four people.

Makes the white circle on the barn suddenly seem plausible, doesn't it people?

We spotted a rusty fence post in a field near my house. It is so close to my house that I could've walked there. You know, if I wasn't so afraid of the corn. Instead of walking there, I just exhibited my patented move of hanging out the window and snapping a photo.

You know what, I believe I actually got out of the mini for this one. In fact I'm sure of it. I remember arguing with my friend about tripping a silent alarm in the owner's house alerting them to the fact that some nitwit with a Nikon was snapping pictures of their old rusty fence post. What can I say? I have a healthy fear of getting shot.

Well, a fear of getting shot. The jury's still out on whether it's a healthy fear or not.

In any case, I do love rusty stuff. And that bright blue sky? Puh-lease. Totally worth the risk of getting shot for trespassing.

Know what else I fear? Besides lone standing trees, corn, and being shot? Spiders. It's not that I think spiders are going to eat me or suck out my mushy brain or shoot me or anything. It's that they are just so darned unexpected. I innocently open the kitchen cabinet to get a bowl for my ice cream one night and blam! A spider is hanging off the corner of the cabinet. Scared the bowl right out of my hand.

True story.

That being said, I can appreciate a spider web. I put an antique filter over this picture of a web. I like how old-timey it looks. Makes me feel that the spider that built this web is long dead and not about to leap out and scare me.

I took a quasi interesting picture of a water spigot. It got more interesting after I applied the antique filter to it.

Of course, most people would say "But yeah … it's still a water spigot." I agree. However, (to my extensive knowledge) no water spigot has ever jumped out and scared someone unlike some arachnids I could mention.

You know, I originally thought this post was going to be about my artsy fartsy photo excursion, but instead it's turned into a mini seminar about my fears. Lone standing trees. Fields of corn. Getting shot. Spiders.

One day I will tell you all about my fear of the phone, but not today. I've had enough of discussing my fears for today.

  1. Love the spider web and the other photos - even with the background of fear.
